Every dollar you’ve donated to Revive Afghanistan NZ could be worth 33 cents more. New Zealand’s donation tax credit scheme lets you claim back a third of what you give — and donate it straight back.
What is a donation tax credit?
Your generosity could go even further
If you’re a New Zealand tax resident and you’ve donated $5 or more to Revive Afghanistan NZ, you’re likely eligible to claim a donation tax credit from Inland Revenue (IRD).
The IRD will refund you 33.33 cents for every dollar you’ve donated, meaning your original donation automatically stretches further. You can then choose to donate that refund straight back to us, multiplying your impact at no additional cost to you.
If you donated $300 to Revive Afghanistan NZ last year, you could claim back $100 from IRD, and donate it straight back to help Afghan communities. That’s a third more impact, for free.
You can claim your tax credit in two ways, online through myIR, or by posting a form. Both are straightforward and take just a few minutes. We’ve laid out both options step by step below.
Donations made to Revive Afghanistan NZ after March 31st 2025 are eligible for Donation Tax Credit.
Claim online via myIR
You’ll need a myIR login at myir.ird.govt.nz, or a RealMe login at realme.govt.nz
1. Sign in to your myIR account
Go to myir.ird.govt.nz and sign in. Under ‘Accounts Summary’, look for the ‘Donation tax credit’ option and click it to begin
2. Enter donation tax credit receipts
On the Donation tax credit page, select ‘Enter donation tax credit receipts’, then click ‘Add a receipt’ to begin entering your donation details.
3. Select the organisation type
The form will ask for the type of organisation. Select ‘Other’ for Revive Afghanistan NZ, then click Next.
4. Attach your tax receipt
Click ‘Add receipt attachments’. A scan or photo of your donation receipt is accepted. Add a description such as ‘Revive Afghanistan NZ tax receipt 2024–2025’ and attach the file.

5. Review and submit
Once all required fields are filled, press ‘OK’. A summary of your receipt will appear. Check everything looks correct, then press ‘Submit’ to send your claim to IRD. IRD will process your claim and pay the credit directly into your nominated bank account.
