Thank you to everyone who contributed to our projects during Eid al Fitr 2024.

Quick background:

This Eid we focused on a few different causes to provide different types of support:

  • Eid Clothes for the less fortunate
  • Eid Fitrana (cash) distributed to the less fortunate
  • Surprise Eid Gift Packs given out on the streets to street workers and more.
  • Eid Meat Distributions

Some families with kids received both Eid Clothes and Fitrana, other sponsored families were provided support by their sponsors for Eid.

Timeframe: 8th April 2024 till 12th April 2024

During this time, our focus was on providing the less fortunate with support for Ramadan, in the last 10 days of Ramadan we also increased our warm food distributions, you can read more about this in our Ramadan 2024 blog post, however we ensured that we gave donors a way to support families in need for Eid.

Eid for many less fortunate families in Afghanistan is not like other countries, the kids don’t wake up to sweets, they don’t wake up to wear their new clothes, or clean water to even have a shower/bath, there is no Eidi cash from their loved ones, this is why we have given the option to donors across the world to help us with these small contributions which can make a large impact on parents and their families.

1) Eid Clothes for the less fortunate:

Many less fortunate kids in Afghanistan do not have that same feeling of Eid that many have, they don’t get new clothes.

With the support of donors, and sponsors we were able to provide 75 packs of clothes packs to kids and widowed mothers for Eid al Fitr 2024

Each pack included:

For girls:

  • Colourful Scarf
  • Afghan Dress
  • Sandles

For boys:

  • Custom Tailored Afghan Traditional clothes (Kamees)
  • Sandles

For Widowed Mothers:

  • Scarf
  • Afghan Traditional Clothes
  • Sandles

2) Eid Fitrana Cash Distribution in Afghanistan:

We had many donors asking us if we could distribute their Fitrana in Afghanistan, “Fitrana” or “Zakat ul Fitrana” is an obligation on every muslim to give, it is normally a donation of food to the less fortunate, there are exact rulings on what this entails, however many Muslims have opted to pay the equivalent through charities, which works out different depending on your local currency.

In New Zealand it was just under $10, this is a payment that is given at the end of Ramadan or specifically before the Eid Salah in your local country.

We put the Fitrana in envelopes and distributed it to families in need.

We distributed 16 Fitrana envelopes, 2000 AFN ($50)

3) Surprise Eid Gift Packs:

On the last couple of nights of Ramadan, we distributed Surprise Eid Gift packs to families in need, we also distributed it to hard working street workers, including those who work very late night to keep the streets of Afghanistan clean but are often neglected.

We distributed 25 Surprise Eid Gift Packs, 2500 AFN per pack ($60)

4) Eid Meat Distributions:

In the last few days of Ramadan, we also distributed meat to the less fortunate at two different schools and directly to peoples homes for their Eid meals.

We had purchased one large animal, and the meat from this animal was portioned into smaller packs to reach a total of 100 families, approximately 1KG each.

This large animal cost $1000 NZD and weighed over 110Kgs.

Revive Afghanistan NZ distributing to families in need.

With donations for Eid support, we managed to help many families in need and having a variety of things happening across two cities made a big difference in many peoples Eids.

Going forward

We plan to keep increasing this for the next Eid, this was only possible with the support of those generous donors who contributed towards the Eid Support.

We also want to thank our teams who managed the Eid distribution in the last 10 nights of Ramadan, alongside all the other Ramadan commitments.
